This conclusion came to me after talking with other website owners within my social circle. Most of them use Go Daddy as their web hosting service. So when a friend of a friend wants to get a website, they're most likely to get one from Go Daddy than anyone else.

This makes Go Daddy an easier services to refer to because they requires less convincing to sign up. Host Gator is almost as popular because they have awesome specials that they offer to new referee's and they're a great service provider; so is Just Host.

From my experience, people know when I'm just selling something to them for the money that I earn. I'm aware of this at all times and try to put my personal ambitions aside when helping others. I refer my customers to the services that will give the most for what they can afford. I also consider things like price, customer service, technical support and available guidance.

I do think about the money I get if they sign-up, but it's the last thing that I take into consideration. My goals are different from most.

Some have trouble understanding why I choose people over money. Trix are for kids. You guys are extremely underestimating the maximum potential earnings of reselling.

Residuals are where you make the money.

As a reseller you are building equity. As a hosting affiliate, you are not. Plus you can control your prices, determine your profit margin, I can offer incentives, coupons, etc. I like the control being a reseller provides.

The commissions are smaller with hosting reseller programs, but you gain a lifetime customer for all additional and residuals. You don't get this with affiliate programs. One customer could end up spending thousands with the company, but as an affiliate you only get that one-time commission. As a reseller you continue to earn as long as they remain a customer. There are lots of misconceptions about reselling.
